Hola hermosuras! Today we take Moguls in the Making all the way to Texas! Because we don’t only highlight Latina moguls in Cali you know! I stumbled across @bombbeautyproducts a week ago on IG and was in love with there unique logo .Found the owner and was intrigued by her edgy style and killer red hair.
Her name Gloria Cadena. Gloria is a 25 year old beauty expert, from the border city of El Paso, Texas. She is the creator of Bomb Beauty Products, a cosmetic and accessories store that houses a variety of other female owned brands. She's known for "breaking the rules of business" by voicing her political opinion and using her platform. Pretty much she is the bomb so we asked her some questions.
What made you want to become an Entrepreneur/Business Owner?
I often tell people I never wanted to be a business owner, I was very happy just doing hair and makeup before starting Bomb Beauty. But the truth is, it’s kinda just always been in me. Ever since I was five I would sell candy at baseball games 2-3 times a week. Its has always just been a natural quality of mine. Even when i didn’t think of my self as one.
What is one thing you've sacrificed for success?
My comfort zone. I've worked hard long hours. I've networked more than I ever have, and I've spent more money and signed more contracts than ever. All those things were scary and put me out of my comfort zone. I have sacrificed my comfort for success.
Tell Us Why You Started Your Business/Started Your Profession?
When I was a hairstylist, I fell in love with many different products that where independently owned. The ones with a story behind them where my favorite. I thought to myself "I wish there was somewhere my friends and clients could buy all of my favorites in one place" so I created what I wish existed Bomb Beauty Products.
What was your first major win as an Entrepreneur?
I try to celebrate every win big or small, but one that stands out to me the most was our one year anniversary. We had a two hour line to get into the store, 10 vendors, a DJ, photo booth, and even hot cheetos with cheese all to celebrate us! The response was amazing a big win for sure!
Have you ever dealt with depression? If so, how did you overcome it?
Depression and mental illness have been a part of my life for years. At 18 I was hospitalized for depression and an eating disorder, therapy helped me. It still is a daily struggle but I know when times get tough or my mind goes dark, I know to look for professional help.
Who motivates and Inspires You?
Beauty all around inspires me. How the cashier at the grocery store does her makeup inspires me, watching someone try on a new lipstick inspires me. When I see people wearing one of my t-shirt designs or see one of our stickers up somewhere it motivates. It keeps me motivated and creating.
“Beauty all around inspires me. How the cashier at the grocery store does her makeup inspires me, watching someone try on a new lipstick inspires me.”
What Does Latin Beauty Mean To You?
Latin Beauty to me means pride, its saying "Im beautiful, like me, like my tias, like mami...." When I label myself as a Latina Beauty I am taking it back from people who want to sexualize or fetishize Latinas.
What Advice Do You Have For Emerging Entrepreneurs?
You deserve it just as much as anyone!
